As we all stay at home during these tough situations, we look for silver linings. I grew up in the capital city of New Delhi in India. Over the years I have seen the transition from seeing the constellation Orion in the sky to utterly no stars in the recent years. After a long time due to clearing of air pollution, Delhiites could see stars in the night sky as pretty as diamonds up above.

The night sky that appeared orange due to the particulate matter and other pollutants diffracting street lights, turned back to its beautiful blackish blue hue. As people travel less, use fewer vehicles, fly less, the pollutants released into the atmosphere reduce. The two months gap show potential of our actions. Although this is not a victory and we have years of pollution to remove from the atmosphere. But this is definitely the first step and a good place for us to start thinking of our actions. Work from home wherever possible, remote meetings instead of flying, more afforestation, rearranging our land use are some first steps we all can take as community and individual.
